These are great boots! They are made of a soft plastic that is almost like leather, and the laces are long enough to easily tie. The metal grommets keep the laces from ripping the fabric. The soles are a thick rummer with real little treads! They're really cute. No complaints! Mod edit to add date!

They look like very nice boots! They would go perfectly with Kirsten's outfits!

Just as a correction, these boots were added in Spring 2001 when Kit's collections based on Books 4-6 was released. When Kit needs heavy work shoes for tough chores, she chooses these dark brown boots that lace up to the ankles. Here's an American Girl stock photo: I got these boots about a year or two after they were released. They are very similar to the boots from the 1996 School Jumper Set, with the differences being the color (Kit's are brown, the Modern boots are black); and the fact that Kit's boots have a ridge on the toes. Overall, these boots are very sturdy. The laces are easy to tie, and these look especially great with Kit's overalls. However, they are a bit costly at $8, and it would have been nice if American Girl had included the shoes with the set. Overall Mark: B+ (Marks deducted for price)
