I bought Ivy from the online store near the end of November 2009, and she arrived early December of that year. She comes wearing a pink and green knit cowl-neck top, green twill pants, tan boots with decorative stitching, and (my personal favorite) yellow underwear with a rainbow decal. Ivy also comes with standard gold post earrings. Her hair is black and straight, comes to her shoulders, and has bangs. Her eyes are decal brown, like Samantha's were, and her face mold is akin to Jess', and to the newer Oriental dolls in the MyAG line.
My Review:
The Meet Outfit: Many people really don't like Ivy's Meet Outfit. They either think it's tacky, or just plain ugly. I guess it must be one of those things where you either dislike it or love it, because I think it is absolutely adorable. I love how the color of her shirt compliments her pants: the two go very well together. Both items are easy to mix and match with other items: I often pair Ivy's top with simple jeans or even the Floral Print Jumpsuit. And while the latter (the top with the jumpsuit) actually does look really ugly, it was actually fairly common in the 1970's to combine two equally loud prints. However, the shirt sleeves don't come down the arm as much as they should, and not every doll could pull it off like Ivy can. B
Likewise, the green pants easily go with any top, and are thin enough to even wear under a dress. I had my Delilah wear the pants with a homemade shirt this Halloween when she dressed as a turtle. The pants do tend to stain though, so I'm giving them an A-, because I love them all the same.
The boots go great with any outfit" they're tan, and so rarely clash with anything. Ivy wears them all the time. (They are her only shoes, after all.) Fairly standard, though the decorative stitching is fabulous. A
And, like I mentioned before, I love the underwear. It is incredibly adorable. My favorite color is yellow, and I would love if American Girl made a girl sized version of Ivy's underpants, that is how much I love them. Of course, I'm going to have to give it an A+.
Overall for Ivy's Meet Outfit: A-.
The Doll: This is going to be completely biased, because I love Ivy. Any flaws she may have I've probably overlooked, just because she's so sweet. She looks great in anything (it is very hard to be able to pull her Meet Outfit off) and her hair is incredibly silky. Besides, she represents my favorite era, so of course I have to give her an A-. Why not an A+? Well, like I mentioned, my Ivy has flaws. Now, this may solely be about my own Ivy, so while my Ivy has green ears and a weird mark on her finger, all the other Ivys might not. But my Ivy came with green earlobes, as a result from the earrings. And I know that this isn't standard for all earring dolls from American Girl: both my Elizabeth (now Lucy, another 1970s character) and Delilah (MyAG, a Modern) came with posts. Granted, theirs were silver and Ivy's are gold, so it may have something to do with the paint. And you can't see the green unless you take the earrings out, which I rarely do. So, an A- for Ivy.
Overall (doll and outfit): A-
I highly recommend Ivy. She's boss!
